Beginners class

Students who do not know German and would like to start learning German at the Technical University of Crete can also apply in German. The beginners class aims at learning written and spoken language with the aim of being able to communicate daily in a German-speaking environment.

German I

Simple German for students who already have a basic knowledge of German. The course seeks to develop written and oral skills in practice. The courses include introduction and use of written comprehension strategies, processing of authentic texts of modern everyday life, graded level, exercises for the enrichment of the existing vocabulary as well as practice in selected thematic units of Grammar. The e-classroom, the exercises on the website of the Language Center, as well as the audiovisual material of autonomous learning, act in addition to the lesson. 2 ECTS
Note: Students holding a German language diploma, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, may be exempted from taking the German I course if they so wish, as follows:
• B1 - grade 5
• B2 - grade 6
• C1 - grade 7
• C2, TestDaF, Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom - grade 8

German II

The course German II has a deepening character and seeks to strengthen the bases created in German I. The aim of the course is to develop students' ability to independently process and understand various forms of original texts, to expand the existing vocabulary and to produce written and oral speech. The online classroom, the exercises on the website of the Language Center as well as the audiovisual material of autonomous learning act in addition to the German course. 2 ECTS

Note: Students holding a German language diploma, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, may be exempted from taking the German II course if they so wish, as follows:

• C1 - grade 7
• C2, TestDaF, Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom - grade 8

German III

In German III special emphasis is placed on the introduction and learning of specialized terminology, both in written and spoken language. The subject of the course is the reading, editing and critical approach of authentic texts (articles, technical texts) of a graded level, which are directly related to the terminology of the School of Mineral Resources Engineering. The forms and structures of formulation in the production of written speech are extended. Particular emphasis is placed on auditory comprehension. The e-classroom, the exercises on the website of the Language Center, as well as the audiovisual material of autonomous learning, act in addition to the lesson. 2 ECTS

German IV

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the terminology of the School of Mineral Resources Engineering in German, through scientific texts and authentic texts with specialized content as well as to improve their writing skills. Particular emphasis is placed on auditory comprehension and the production of oral / written speech, in order to achieve further comfort in transnational communication. The e-classroom, the exercises on the website of the Language Center as well as the audiovisual material of autonomous learning act in addition to the lesson. 2 ECTS
